Facial recognition technology will soon “come of age” and be available to anyone. Within a couple of years, we will have an app that will match a photo you take with photos on the public internet and match a person’s online identity to the photo.
Privacy campaigners and government agencies will try to stop or reduce facial recognition availability and usage. But anyone that knows their history will know – don’t bother. An internet-based powerful technology like this is impossible to stop.
I’m waiting to see what methods/ technologies are developed for ordinary residents to hide their full face from being captured and then identified by facial recognition technology. Again, based on history, most probably people don’t have the time or inclination to buy or wear a facial mask.
It’s too late to do anything about it. Even if you have deleted a photo of your full face that was available on the public internet, the photo has already been saved by internet archives such as archive.org and can potentially be used for facial recognition purposes.
